If he says he doesn't have a date then tell him to pick one. I don't know if we'll be able to do something for everyone's birthdays while we're here, but it would be nice to if the opportunity presents itself. Especially if he's never had someone celebrate his birthday before.
It's probably hard for him to admit that he has an emotional reaction to something when no one's treated him like a person before. That's got to be an adjustment; it takes time to see it.
That's definitely a part of it. The other half is, like, all the rest of his programming. The people who made him didn't want him to have his own emotions and stuff, so I think it feels kinda like going against his nature to him.
No, at this point it doesn't matter, does it. Is there something in his programming that's telling him having emotions is bad? Maybe we can turn that off for him. Or lower it a little.
I don't know if it tells him it's bad exactly. The way he talks about it, it sounds like he gets error messages when he does stuff that goes outside his programming whether it's emotional or not. He's managed to turn off some of the ones for his combat systems, but it's a lot harder when he's messing around with, like, his actual mind.
I dunno who I'd trust to mess with it either. Even Aides... I know he's a super genius, but that's still my friend's brain he'd be tinkering around in. What if he doesn't know whatever language aliens code in?
That's true. It's something we'd have to make sure Scarab was interested in too. Error messages sound like a pain to get just for doing what you feel like, though, right? Something he could toggle on and off sounds like it would be best, but I don't know if anyone but him is qualified to deal with his specific kind of programming.
We could try asking Red about it if Scarab's interested... I know we're supposed to avoid him, but he's the only guy who can get stuff related to our home worlds. He might be able to just summon a thumb drive of Reach programming that'd take care of it.
I have a whole list of stuff that I need to ask Red for; even I know there are times when he's the only one who can get what you need.
Make sure Scarab knows exactly what he'd need to deal with that programing before going to Red though. Who knows if he'd pull a fast one and give him something worse if he's not specific.

Don't let him hear you say that.
