Your Name said that my difficulty with reading sounded like it!
( said as if... lethe even knew he had difficulty with reading...
but if lethe does pause to think about it, he may remember that the few memories he'd received from perci during the mind-dive had strange letters and words that did not actually align like words might. )
( his excitement and adrenaline have tapered off to something a little shyer, uncertain. )
Charon agreed to teach me a bit more so I can read more easily... but if I have a problem like that, I'd like him to know before he commits time to it.
( lethe has ample time to read up on it. by the time perci actually returns he's speckled with dirt and a few leaves in his hair but his arms are empty of all of his preserved foods, basket containing a good amount of asparagus.
perci is beaming nonetheless. )
Mission accomplished! These asparagus are pretty tender.
Me too! ...I've never done something like this before, so we're figuring it out together.
[honestly he's cobbled together a very basic quiz through his speedy reading, basically like this of generic questions and a few examples to try. all of the examples are in Korean; he's bad at English and I know zero Korean so we simply have to use our imaginations for that part
he reads all the questions out loud, but also shows Perci what he's reading to see if he can follow along at all. it probably doesn't take too long going through the questions to figure out if it's dyslexia tbh]
[it is a confirmation they both kind of expected, given the conversation, so he sets aside some books for Charon just in case he needs to read up on it too]
I didn't know you'd know it, honestly. But I only really know how to write in Korean, so it's the only thing I could use to test. English is...well, I could translate bits if I really needed to. I think. But mostly I just look for books in the library that I can read and leave the ones I can't.
"Korean"... is what you call it...? The language used mostly around here is most similar to Common, I believe it is "English", then?
Korean is easier to read and write in. I'm still not the best at it, but I recall learning as a child now, and that does help. I know many languages verbally, however. It was necessary.
That's right. Korean is the native language of my country. We have to learn English in school too, but I dropped out early so I don't remember that much of it. Still, I'm confident in my ability to read and write in my own language.
[English has given him nothing but trouble at every turn smh
leans in to take a look at the character]
This is...it'd be Japanese for me. This is "snow", right? I only know some of the basics for Japanese, though. Chinese too. I wouldn't be able to figure out a sentence without a dictionary.
I'm a little surprised that the languages overlap this much between worlds. I was expecting a completely different writing system.
Mmm, that's right. Huuuh... I wonder what other things my world has in common with yours. I think someone else knew what my occupation was by looking at what I wore, but that's really rare for someone who doesn't know Sakian culture.
I'm certain some worlds must have a completely different writing system. Just as my world has a completely different magic system to most here.
I've seen the different writing systems of other worlds. They're usually nothing like this.
But, there are also kids here from other "Earths" that are similar to mine without being identical. Maybe your world is connected to the same source as mine. Then some of the similarities would make sense.
( he does a quick sketch of the many-layered kimono he wore, something lethe may remember from perci's memories during the bartender ritual. he's actually a pretty good artist, shame he's drawing an oiran's attire. )
Re: day 21
Perci? What happened? Are you okay?
Re: day 21
Re: day 21
What are you asking about this for...?

Re: day 21
—Oh! Huh. Ah, do you want to test it? I don't know what a proper test looks like, but I think I have the idea...

Re: day 21
Thank you, Lethe.
Re: day 21
[since Perci is going to be a bit anyways he is going to run to the library and grab a Dyslexia for Dummies 101 book]
Re: day 21

Re: day 21
Thanks. I wanted to see if we could cook some up with dinner tonight.
[...just. reaches over and pulls a few leaves out of Perci's hair, amused, and then nods towards the couch]
It's not much, but I pulled together a makeshift test too. So we can see how it works out.
Re: day 21
( he touches his hair, taking out the last one quizzically. sometimes calf-length hair gives you surprises. )
Um, alright! One second -
( he goes to set down the basket next to lethe and wash up. at least somewhat. can't fix his clothes but later. )
Alright! I'm ready!
( his wings are puffed up. )

How did you get this...? I didn't know there were any books in my language...
I didn't even know you knew it.

Re: day 21
Hmmmm~ I'm envious... but that's so curious. You're a human and we know the same language.
Do you know Sakian? Um - the characters are... ( on a spare piece of paper he draws the japanese kanji for snow. )

What outfit do you have that's Sakian?

--Oh! I do remember seeing you in this one. I'm guessing you didn't wear hanbok, if you were wearing kimono instead.
Re: day 21
( he does, perhaps not surprisingly, draw a hanbok. his is very flowy with a skirt. )
